FEES

This includes:

- All prenatal visits

- Lab work

- Birth supplies

- Use of the birth tub

- Six weeks post-natal care for you and baby

- For those coming to us later in their pregnancies   We will pro-rate for prenatal care they have already received only if they provide records from another caregiver. We pro-rate expenses because many find themselves later in pregnancy wanting to change care providers and feeling like they are stuck since they are so far along. You should not have to pay for your care twice!  We require records, because we want to know that there has been prenatal care up to that point, and if there has not then extra time will need to be spent to catch-up on some things.

Payment arrangements:
We have used a midwife in the past and know that money does not appear just because we got pregnant!  We require a $350.00 deposit that is non-refundable when we start care.  We only take on four births a month and this deposit ensures that you will be one of them. After that, we will sit down together and figure out how the remainder will be paid out by the 38th week of pregnancy. We will draw up a contract, and as long as the balance is paid at the end it does not matter how you choose to do it.

Renaissance Maternity Care Services

  • Consultation visit (1 hour): A chance for us to meet and discuss mutual questions and the appropriateness of homebirth for your individual situation. A dietary evaluation is included. There is no charge for this interview.
  • Initial visit (60 minutes): Includes medical history, physical exam, blood work-up, dietary review and discussion of preparation for homebirth. If you are coming in later in your pregnancy then we will do a full chart review.
  • Prenatal visits (1 hour each): Once monthly until the 28th week, every two weeks until the 36th week and every week thereafter until birth, or as often as necessary for your individual situation. The visit at 36 weeks is done in your home to help me become familiar with your environment and so we know we can find it before the birth.
  • Labor and birth care: Done in your home or birth center as long as necessary. We stay a minimum of two hours postpartum and longer if need be. If your birth takes place at the birth center in the middle of the night you may stay until morning and then return home.
  • Postpartum visits: Done by phone at 24 hours and at home at 72 hours. Then they will be done in the office at approximately two weeks, four weeks and six weeks, more often if need be.
  • You may call with questions or concerns at any time. We also provide nutritional counseling throughout the pregnancy and can provide information on homeopathic and herbal remedies for common complaints.

Our Accessibility

We will be available to you twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week unless we specifically tell you otherwise. If a situation arises concerning the immediate well being of mother or baby, or you feel that labor has begun, we expect you to call anytime. We carry a cell phone at all times so you can always get ahold of us. If you get leave a voice mail, please allow at least 15 minutes to get back to you. We may be at a birth, or in the middle of an exam, but will check messages at least that often.

We would appreciate calls that concern appointments, billing, etc. to be made weekdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 PM. The evenings are reserved for our families when we are not with laboring moms!

We are often asked: What if two women go into labor at once? This rarely happens, but if it should Heather will check on the client who appears to be earlier in their labor while Tiffany tends to the client whose birth appears imminent. Once the mother and baby are stable, Tiffany will come as soon as possible.

Appointments

Regular visits are an important part of your care. Prenatal visits establish a means for us to get to know each other. We expect you will make them a priority in your pregnancy. If you must cancel an appointment, please let me know as soon as possible so another visit can be arranged. If we must leave for a birth, we will attempt to reach you at home before you leave for your appointment. If we can not reach you, we will leave a message on the door.

Appointments are scheduled on Tuesday, Friday or the first and third Saturday. Thank you for understanding the importance of balancing the life of a midwife with the life of a mother!
